My Thoughts:

Trinity Alexander is living with her Grandma Sarah in Disappointment Cove, Missouri since she got in a bit of trouble at her other school and was sent to live there.  What she doesn't know is that this is when her life will change completely and for the better.

Logan Sharpe is the new boy in school that Trinity has been appointed to show around since they are both in the Outreach Program.  Even though she has only been at Disappointment Cove High School for three weeks, she agrees to the task.  She notices that he walks with a limp and also has burns on his body that he tries to hide with a hoodie.  Despite the scars, she still finds him handsome and even jealous of the girls competing for his attention.  Though Trinity has just met Logan, she is drawn to him- his caring side, his mood swings and even his secrets.

This book was amazing!  I was really addicted to this book while reading it.  The way the author describes the people, places, and events that occur, made me feel like I was really experiencing it myself.  I was pulled in from the first chapter and engrossed the whole way till the end.  I love it when a book makes such an impact that you catch yourself thinking about it days later.  That's what this story did for me.

Lori Clark is an author that I have never read before, so I had no idea what to expect when I started Beauty's Beholder. 

The characters of Trinity and Logan are incredible.  Trinity is the type of girl who doesn't hold back, and when she has something to say, she says it.  She has a tendency to put her foot in her mouth, especially when she is talking with Logan.  She is unique, smart, and a lover of animals and that is what makes her irresistible to Logan.  Logan is a real flirt when it comes to Trinity.  When she tries to talk to him about his past, his scars, or even his family life, he just gets all moody towards her.  He realizes that he does it and apologizes for it later, but he knows that he is gonna have to tell her the truth soon before she starts believing all the rumors going around school.  He has an amazing heart when it comes to taking care of all the animals at the shelter and he doesn't let his limp hold him back.  Their love of animals is something that they have in common and they grow from that into something pretty amazing.  I even loved the other characters.  Her BFF, Petrie, her Grandma Sarah (who is a pretty awesome Grandma, btw) and all the other characters  that make this story fulfilling. 

This story was very believable.  It could happen to anyone at anytime and that is what kept me reading.  I will definitely be reading more of Lori Clark's stories when they become available.  The writing was amazing as well as the romance, drama, and secrets.  If you haven't read this, I highly recommend that you do.  I guarantee that you'll love it too.

Review: Love and Fangs by Stephanie Blough

My Thoughts:

Maddy's life is about to take a new direction.  She is now a senior in high school.  When she gets there, she sees this gorgeous boy.  She's never seen him before and is instantly attracted to him.  They lock eyes and he comes over to talk to her.  His name is Dylan and he has just moved to Cherry Rock, TN from Montana.  He is a complete gentleman and even carried her bag to class and is constantly complimenting her.  How sweet is that!  They end up having every class together.  Is it a coincidence or is it fate?

Maddy is the new captain on the cheerleading team.  As she was watching the football players practice, she noticed Dylan and he was on the team.  Maddy has never been about putting boys above her school, until Dylan.  There is just something about him that she can't resist.  He's good looking, pale, cold, and extremely sweet.  Who could resist?

Later on in the week, there is a murder outside the woods at her school.  Maddy and her best friend, Amber, sneak out back to look for Dylan, who had just went outside to his car, to make sure he was ok.  It wasn't Dylan and he left a note for Maddy saying that he was fine.  A few weeks later, there is another murder.  Maddy and Amber go through the same door again and see the killer in the woods.  Soon Amber and her parents end up missing and Maddy can't help but blame herself.  If they had just stayed inside of the school, they wouldn't have seen the killer and became his next targets.  Even though Maddy is falling for Dylan, she can't help but think that this all started when his family came to town.  Is he who he says he is?  Will she be the next target on the killer's list?

I thought this was a really good book.  The writing needed a lot of editing, but I try to overlook that.  This is a debut novel from the author and as soon as I saw the cover and the name, I had to check it out.  The cover is a bit cheesy, but it's so cheesy that it caught my attention, lol.  "Love" would be romance and "Fangs" would obviously be vampires according to the cover picture and I am a sucker when it comes to YA vampire romance.

I love that the setting was here in TN.  Maddy lives about an hour from Nashville, so she's a country music lover like me.  She even gets to meet Kenny Chesney in the book.  How awesome that would be!! 

I found very little of the book to be believable.  Well, obviously we know the book is about vampires and we know those are fiction, but I'm talking about the storyline as a whole.  Maddy develops special powers, hears voices, and can see a ghost.  The story is also very choppy.  I felt that there was so much more the author could have delivered in the plot to make her story a little bit more entertaining and believable.  So many details seem to have been left out.  There is one scene where Dylan wants Maddy to go with him to a school dance and after she turns him down because they don't know each other very well, it is never mentioned again.  Stephanie could have wrote in about them going on dates, more activities outside of classes, and even just a little more detail, in general, of what the characters looked like and what they wore.  So basically, I think that it was just lacking a bit and could have used more storyline.  She really had the potential for a rating of 5 stars with the idea of her book if she just would have extended it a bit and made the reader feel like there wasn't anything missing. 

Overall, I overlooked most of the editing and enjoyed the story.  A little less than what I went in anticipating, but I was still so engrossed in it that I read it all in one sitting.  Love, fangs, special powers, and mystery are all apart of Stephanie's debut and if you can overlook a bit of editing mistakes, I think that you'll enjoy this too.

Q. Keeping with the dystopian and apocalypse theme that seems to be running rampant on parajunkee.com, I have one very hard question for you: If you were stocking your bomb shelter, what books would you HAVE to include if you only had space for ten?

A. Well, I would think that I would have my Kindle with me.  I never leave home without it.  I even took it in the basement when we were under a  bunch of tornado warnings Wednesday night.  It never leaves my side.  With that being said, I think that there would still be electricity in the bomb shelter, like in the movie Blast From The Past but if not, I tried to come up with a list of only 10 (and just let me say- it was sooo hard trying to drop some of my all time favorites from my list) that I would put on my shelf.  My top 10 are as follows in no particular order:

~ I loved the first book.  My hubby had bought me a Kindle copy of the book the day before my birthday as an early birthday present.  I finished it in one day.  It was sooo good that I didn't want to stop reading.  I finished it all in one sitting and basically ended up ignoring my hubby that evening.  The ending was a major cliffhanger and I have wanted the sequel ever since!  My review for Crave can be found here.

The cover for Sacrifice is georgeous.  This one sounds like it picks right back up from where Crave left off.  I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of this book!!~

Review: The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn

My Thoughts

Chester is scared to leave his mother and go to school. So she tells him the secret of "The Kissing Hand" that he can keep with him while at school and when he feels lonely or scared while he's away, he can just raise his hand to his cheek and know that Mommy loves him.



Such an adorable little story! I think this is a great idea to keep children from being afraid when they are away from their loved ones. The pictures in the story are so cute and will really be able to touch a child's heart. They show the emotions that Chester and his mother are going through and it kindla breaks your heart when you think that your child is scared and doesn't want to leave you, but that if you do "The Kissing Hand" the way mother does, your child will know that you are missing them and loving them just as they are for you. I really recommend this to parents that are getting ready to go through being away from their children - whether it be first day of school, going away on a trip without you (like to a grandparent's house) or just for a time in the future you know you'll be separted for awhile where it would come in handy for later. Great idea and Story!!

~I have been waiting since last summer for this one.   I loved the whole storyline and the characters.  Lisa is a really creative writer and her book Personal Demons had me hooked from page one.  I'm not too thrilled about the cover but this is a case that I know I won't care because I will be waiting for what's inside.  The first book was so good and I can't wait to see what happens in the sequel... so hurry up July and get here already!!~

Review: The Day Before by Lisa Schroeder

My Thoughts:

Amber was switched at birth.  Now that her biological parents know about the mix-up, they are awarded shared custody with each set of parents getting  the 15 year old for six months at a time.  It is the day before she leaves to meet her birth parents.  She decides that she wants to spend her last day in Oregon at the beach alone.

While she is looking at the jellyfish in an aquarium, she meets a boy, Cade.  He suspects who she is from all the news reports in the media, but they agree not to ask each other their problems cause Cade has something that is bothering him on his mind too.

They spend the day at the beach building sandcastles, talking about their interests and lives, going to dinner and falling for each other.  Now that she's met Cade, she doesn't want to leave to go to Texas to meet her biological parents.   When it comes down to leaving, will she be able to leave her family, friends and Cade or will she run away?

This was an easy read for me.  It was written in verse, as all of Lisa Schroeder's books are that I've read.  It took me less than two hours to read the whole book.  Once I started, I was drawn into the characters' lives and didn't want to stop until I concluded their story.

I can't imagine being switched at birth.  Amber's life is turned upside down when her biological parents start fighting for shared custody.  Through their letters to Amber, we see that they really are loving and caring people whom are devoted to make Amber happy when she comes to stay with them.  Sure, it might be a little scary at first, leaving everyone behind in Oregon, but Amber needs to see where they're coming from and at least give them a chance.  It's not their fault there was a mix-up at the hospital.

Overall, I really enjoyed the story.  The romance between Amber and Cade was really sweet.  They both had something happening the next day and were able to bond over what was going on in their lives as well as comfort and understand each other.   I was in suspense wondering what Cade's big secret was the whole time I was reading.  So if you like moonlit campfires on the beach, family drama, kissing, and suspense that keeps you guessing the entire time- then look no further because this is the book that you're looking for.  It's a fast and purely enjoyable read with a storyline that pulls you in and won't let you go and even days after you are finished, you will still be thinking about it.

My Thoughts:

We know from the start that Briony is a witch and she is to be hung.  The story is what leads up to trial of her hanging and the events that precede her revealing her secret all the while falling for a boy, Eldric. 

Briony isn't your typical witch that you think of with a black hat, black cat, and a cauldron.  She is a girl who can see spirits, The Buggy Mon, and many other unique creatures and horrors (some of which are naked- which really made me laugh while reading that scene) that will try to get you in the while you are in the swamp unless you carry a bible ball, a piece of paper with a script written on it, with you.
Briony must find a way to save her sister and she will do whatever she has to do, including revealing her true identity. 

Chime is filled with secrecy, betrayal, mysterious creatures, and even some romance. The pages take you to another world entirely filled with monsters and something that you would read out of a Grimm's fairy tale. It is surprisingly different than what I was expecting it to be and it's definitely something different than what I usually end up reading.  If you're ready for a unique cast of characters along with an original storyline, then this is a book that you should get your hands on.

Q.  Do you judge a book by it's cover?

A.  I am gonna be honest and say yes, I do.  I tend to notice the cover first while searching through books.  If the cover is pretty or eye catching, then I immediately go and look at the description.  If the description doesn't interest me, then I won't even worry about how pretty the cover is.  The only times that I don't judge a book by it's cover is when I have heard fantastic things about the book or if it is by an author that I really love to read.

~I can't wait for this title to come out!  It sounds amazing.  I love the cover and that is what first caught my attention.  After reading the description I realized this is an original idea for a plot and it actually sounded really good.  So soon after, I started going to the author's blog and found that he is so incredible.  Not only is he hot -don't tell my hubby I said that- but he is hilarious, super smart, and talented (seriously - just check out his dancing) and if he can interpret all that into his writing style, then we will have a major hit on our hands and a hot new author to watch out for!!

My Thoughts:


Kylie Galen heads to a party one night after her grandmother's funeral and learning of her parents' plans to divorce.  She doesn't drink like her friends but is still put into custody when the police bust up the party. 

Her mom sends her to Shadow Falls Camp.  She soon learns the summer camp is inhabited with freaks when she steps on the bus and finds people that are nothing like her.  They are kids who look like the real troublemakers wit their multicolored hair, piercings, and tattoos.  Kylie finds out after she arrives that the camp is not for ordinary kids, but for supernaturals such as vampires, werewolves, and shapeshifters and that she is actually a supernatural.

She spends her summer making new friends and learning about their special gifts all the while searching her history trying to find out if she truly is a supernatural and what kind she might be.  She knows that she can see a ghost, was born at midnight, and can feel when people try to touch her and change her state of emotion so now she begins her journey to discover what she is and if she happens to meet a couple of cute boys along the way- all the better.  What Kylie discovers just might change her entire life.

First of all, let me say that the beautiful colors on the cover are what drew me to Born at Midnight in the first place.  It's creepy and mysterious all at the same time.  Bravo on the cover!

This is wonderful.  I was immediately drawn into Kylie's life from the first page.  Her home life was really believable and I can imagine the tension between Kylie and her parents that are separating.  What I can't believe is that she would be sent away after one minor screw up to a summer camp. 

My favorite scene is when Perry, a shapeshifter, transforms to a kitten and Kylie takes it in to keep it safe.  I'm not gonna say what happens, but let me tell you that it was a non-stop, laugh out loud funny sort of moment.  I was laughing so hard that I started getting tears in my eyes.  Towards the end though,  I actually did shed a few tears, so have a tissue handy just in case you need one.

Born at Midnight is the start of a new series by C.C. Hunter.  It is a really addicting story so once you start, you'll use every free minute you can to continue Kylie's journey.  The author creates a world where supernaturals exist and rogues want Shadow Falls shut down.  This story is filled with humor, sadness, and romance along with mystery and a little drama among friends.  So those of you who want a breath of fresh air from your original paranormal romance, go grab C.C. Hunter's debut title, Born at Midnight, cause it has it all.

I loved it!  Everytime I read one of Jennifer's works, I am hooked from the start.  She is one of my favorite authors.


Ashlyn Adair was kidnapped by her nanny when she was 5 years old because the nanny wanted to be with Ash's father.  She never hurt her but only threatened to if he didn't leave his wife for her.  Ashlyn's father decided that she needed protection from then on.


Ashlyn hasn't seen Colin in 5 years since she moved from California to New York.  She never liked him cause he use to torment and pick on her.  Now, he's in New York and has been hired by Ashlyn's dad to be her new bodyguard.  Her old bodyguard, Stuart, fell in love with her and had to be fired since Ash was uncomfortable around him.  At first, she doesn't like him and gives him a hard time.  Later she realizes that he has grown up and changed alot (emotionally an physically.)


Ashlyn soon starts developing feelings for Colin.  He's able to see her life from the inside and they are able to bond when she is in need of a friend.  With Ashlyn being a job, will he be able to resist her advances and protect her when she really needs it?


Overprotected took being a protective father to a whole new level.  He goes to great lengths to keep his "princess" safe, but what he doesn't realize is that its pushing her away and even putting her in more danger.


I love forbidden romance and I felt that is what this was, in a way.  Colin is supposed to be Ashlyn's protector, but through her eyes we are able to see little signs here and there that he is starting to like her more than a bodyguard should.  The only problem is that Ashlyn's father might fire him if anything is acted upon.  Daddy doesn't want her to fall in love and leave.  He wants to keep an eye on her always to keep her safe from being kidnapped again.


So, overall, this is a book I really recommend reading.  Danger, a HOT guy in shades with you 24/7 -yummy!,  romance, family drama, and oh- did I mention a HOT guy in shades yet?  This story has it all so you won't be bored.  What more could a reader ask for?  So go grab a copy.  I bet you'll love it too.

My Thoughts:

What a sweet story!  It tells of the special little thing that mothers can do to mean so much to their children.
We learn through the prayers of the young that actions can really show a child how we feel about them.  Things such as caring, being patient, fixing boo boos, simple interactions and playing together can show them how much they're loved.  I think the purpose of this story is to show parents that simple little gestures can make a true difference in a child's life.  If you are a mommy, you should really take the time to read this to your little one.  It just might change your relationship with your child and bring y'all a little closer to each other.

My Thoughts:

This is a super cute story that shows what a dad can do to show he cares.  He can encourage a child to be the best he can.  He can teach them to work hard and play with them to show he cares.  He can be a hero just by doing little things such as playing together, fixing things that are broken, or a simple good night hug.  This story tells us that the simplest little things a dad can do is what will impact the children the most growing up.  I personally think that all dads out there should read this.  It's a great example of how fathers should interact with their kids and show them that they don't have to be a real superhero to be a hero in their child's eyes.
